Nationally Syndicated Cartoonist To Speak Friday
Oklahoma Christian University Gallery Exhibition October 1st-25th
EDMOND, OKLAHOMA – Oklahoma Christian University will open a gallery exhibition on Friday, October 1, 2010 to highlight local businessman and nationally-syndicated cartoonist Dave Miller. Students will be addressed from 3:30 p.m.to 4:15 p.m. in GC147 on the OC campus, located at 2501 East Memorial Road, Edmond, Oklahoma. A free, public reception will follow from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with food and beverages available.
The DAVE cartoons, along with original sketches and inked drawings will be on display October 1-October 25, 2010 in the university gallery, located in the Northwest corner of the Garvey Center, open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Miller’s nationally-syndicated cartoon strip ran daily for 7 years. Originally syndicated by Tribune Media Services from 1992 through 1999, the DAVE comic strip appeared in over 160 newspapers worldwide, including the Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News, and San Francisco Examiner.
With 25 years of art and graphic design experience, Miller brings a healthy dose of comedic humor to all his work. His career spans both coasts and a variety of design disciplines, from automotive designer, to senior designer at Hasbro Toys, and even an assistant director for the animation industry.
The DAVE cartoon strip focused on the character “Dave,” a typical 90s guy and his commentary on technology, dating, relationships, family and even pop culture. Miller produced over 2,000 cartoons and his licensed properties include everything from calendars and mugs, to books and t-shirts.
Currently, Miller and his wife Sandy own Back40 Design Group. For the past 11 years, he’s overseen hundreds of client relationships for all creative departments: web, print and graphic design. He also serves as Publisher for the Edmond Outlook monthly magazine, which serves 50,000 local residents and businesses.
In his spare time, Miller enjoys taking his Ducati for a spin and an occasional fine cigar – but not at the same time. He also enjoys quality family time, avoiding home repairs, and is a member of the Henderson Hills Baptist Church Men’s Group.
