How was your first day? What did you do?
My first day was great! The atmosphere of the workplace was just what I hoped it would be. The people here are nice, friendly, and welcoming. Even though I was nervous, I believe I did a great job! I helped Krystal with basic administrative duties and after lunch I began designing my first ad for the Edmond Outlook magazine! They even got me a new computer. Very cool.
How’d you find us (Back40)?
When I first moved to Edmond, I knew I had to find a job. I applied at various local OKC design firms hoping to receive a job there since I want to someday work in a field along those lines. In fact, one company had just hired a college graphic design student the same day I inquired about a job, they then led me to Back40 Design and the Edmond Outlook. I did some online research research and contacted them right away.
What motivated you to apply for an internship? Why Back40?
When I applied at Back40, I knew it would be a great place for me to get my feet wet and experience the world of graphic design. I didn’t want to pursue a job that was going to bore me. I wanted something exciting, and a job that I would love.
What do you hope to get out of a Back40 internship?
I hope to become a better designer. I hope to strengthen my leadership skills and basic qualities that a graphic designer must possess. One thing I have learned so far is to definitely respect a graphic designer. The time, energy, and effort it takes to produce quality work can be very stressful!
What are you studying at UCO?
I am currently a junior studying graphic design and photography with a minor in advertising. Therefore, I have a whole lot of school ahead of me, but I am ready for the challenge! Bring it on!
Tell us something we don’t know about you. We barely know anything about you – so this should be easy.
I am a huge reality TV show fan. If you were to look on my DVR at home, you would be blindsided as to how many reality shows I have recorded. My favorite has got to be Big Brother! I think I want to audition for it!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I hate when asked this question because I never have an answer! I would love to do so many things! Is running my own graphic design business, having a photography studio, and working with an advertising agency too much to ask for?
You’re from the Oklahoma panhandle, how do you like Edmond, Oklahoma?
I was scared to death when I first moved here. I come from Beaver, OK which has a population of around 1,200 people, and I have lived there pretty much my entire life. The biggest “city” (or should I say town) I have lived in was Alva when I went to school at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Having been here in Edmond for about a month so far, I have grown to love this place. Everything I need is close by, and I like that it’s safe compared to other parts of the city. Now all I need to do is get used to the crazy traffic!
