IIS (Internet Information Services)
Microsoft's proprietary HTTP web server software.

Image File
A file that contains image data. Common image file formats include:
  • .jpg JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
  • .png Portable Network Graphic open image format
  • .gif Graphic Intechange Format
  • .bmp Windows bitmap image
  • .tiff Tagged Image File Format
  • .raw Unencoded image format

IP (Internet Protocol)
The transport layer protocol used as a basis of the Internet. IP enables information to be routed from one network to another in packets, which are reassembled when they reach their destination.

IP address
Sometimes called a dotted quad. A unique number consisting of 4 parts separated by dots; e.g., 216.226.16.122. Every machine that is on the Internet has a unique IP number - if a machine does not have an IP number, it is not really on the Internet. Most machines also have one or more domain names that are easier for people to remember.

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
A set of standards for high-speed transmission of simultaneous voice, data and video information over fewer channels than would otherwise be needed, through the use of phone lines. ISDN can provide speeds of 64,000 bits-per-second over a regular phone line at almost the same cost as a normal phone call.

ISP (Internet Service Provider)
An institution that provides access to the Internet in some form, usually for money.
