HTML Updating vs. CMS — Old Logo vs. New Logo

Web Portfolio - Bio Tech websiteBio Tech, Inc. came to Back40 Design requesting a redesign of their existing website. Bio Tech supplies environmentally safe microbial products to the oil and gas industry.

We were directed to utilize the existing Bio Tech logo in the development of their new website. While this may have been a good idea in theory, once our designer presented the newly customized web pages for the redesign project, it became apparent Bio Tech would benefit from updating and re-branding their company image, not just their website. While re-establishing a company brand during a website redesign is not our recommended process of projects, we are flexible. Our design team quickly went to work developing a logo design that 1) incorporated the look and feel of the established website direction and 2) communicated the technology and biology to develop a logo design and website for their Biotech engineering company. Another area in which Back40 Design’s flexibility was beneficial to our client was with the final phase of the website development. For the website assignment, Bio Tech requested that we simply design and develop the website without integrating the project with our content management system, Javelin. They planned to update the website themselves through their existing staff, and use their current host provider. Again, not what we suggested, but we’re flexible. We are always willing to make our clients happy. Shortly after the project was completed and posted to the web – Bio Tech realized the immense benefits of Back40’s Javelin content management system. They returned to us and requested we integrate their website into our hosted content management system, as we originally suggested. Apparently, editing HTML was not as easy as they had planned. Again, we are happy to make our clients smile. 🙂

The Javelin CMS system has built-in modules such as news, calendar, image galleries, user management and e-commerce. It’s easy to expand the capabilities of your website without adding a lot of development cost. Our developer integrated our Javelin content management system ASAP. Our project manager provided free training to the Bio Tech website administrator on how to log in and work the basic necessities. (Javelin training is more of a familiarization of user-friendly tools than instruction… the intuitive nature of the program allows clients to catch on very quickly.)

Bio Tech’s web administrator Holly Nichols summed it up best “We decided to use Javelin because it was just so much easier than trying to make changes than any other way.”

Back40 Design is proud to honor “the client is always right” code, while edging in a few good ideas of our own as well…
