Mail Server

A server that sends, receives and stores email.

Megabyte

1,024 kilobytes of digital data. Abbreviated as MB.

Meta Data

Data that describes data. For example, the title, subject, author, and size of a document constitute meta data about the document.

Meta Description

The meta description is how search engines describe your site. It should be short and keyword dense.

Meta Keywords

Keywords and phrases should be separated by commas. You should also include misspellings and alternate ways of saying a keyword. Limit the number of keywords you list to 10-20 and organize them from most important to least important.

Meta Tag

The information that you provide in a meta tag is used by search engines to index a page so that someone searching for the kind of information the page contains will be able to find it. 

There are several types of meta tags, but the most important among these are the keywords meta tag and the description meta tag.

Microsoft Outlook

A personal information/email manager, part of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft SQL Server

A proprietary Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) that uses Structured Query Language (SQL) for managing data.

MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions)

An Internet standard for transferring various file formats.

Mirror

A server that provides copies of the same files as another server. Some servers are so popular that other servers have been set up to mirror them and spread the load to more than one site.

Mobile Site

A website that is optimized for viewing on a mobile device such as tablets (like the iPad or Galaxy Tab) and/or web-enabled mobile phones (iPhones, Blackberry, etc.).

Modem

(MOdulator, DEModulator) A device that you connect to your computer and to a phone line, that allows the computer to talk to other computers through the phone system. Basically, modems do for computers what a telephone does for humans.

Mozilla Firefox

An open source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and hundreds of volunteers. Mozilla Firefox was originally known as Phoenix and briefly as Mozilla Firebird.

MySQL

An open source Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) that uses Structured Query Language (SQL) for managing data.
